Pretzels

I am in desperate need of some pretzels (or something from the salty department) and I have a student at my desk...Plus another one in the wings...

Sigh...

Life is hard...

LOL...okay...I am being dramatic...but hey...it was fun!

Weekend fun!

Tomorrow I am getting off work at noon and we are taking off for a three-day vacation! We are going to visit Joe's sister and her family in Idaho...kind of near Coeur D'Alene near the St. Joe National Forest (how appropriate!) We are probably driving to Pullman, WA (where Joe grew up) Friday night and spend the night there and then finish the trip Saturday morning.

I can't wait. It is going to be fun...plus Joe's neices will be excited to spend the weekend with the boys. To top it all off, we get to eat smores! Yummy. They are my favorite camping treat!

Tonight I need to finish packing. I got the boys all packed but didn't get around to my packing.

I am SO EXCITED!! Woo hoo!!!

Disaster on a Stick

An attempt to erect the world’s largest popsicle in a city square ended with a scene straight out of a disaster film — but much stickier.
The 25-foot-tall, 17½-ton treat of frozen Snapple juice melted faster than expected Tuesday, flooding Union Square in downtown Manhattan with kiwi-strawberry-flavored fluid that sent pedestrians scurrying for higher ground.
Firefighters closed off several streets and used hoses to wash away the sugary goo.
Snapple had been trying to promote a new line of frozen treats by setting a record for the world’s largest popsicle, but called off the stunt before it was pulled fully upright by a construction crane. Authorities said they were worried the thing would collapse in the 80-degree, first-day-of-summer heat.
Funny!!

Police at my door

So, I wake up this morning to police knocking on my door at 5:30. Talk about a rude awakening! Apparently a crazy (high on something) was breaking into Joe's truck and was trying to steal the stereo. The really bad part? He was using Joe's flashlight to help him see!

Luckily I have a great neighbor and he went out to get the newspaper and the guy was right in plain sight so the guy thought if he stood there for a second the guy would get spooked, but I guess he was too high to notice. He was still in the truck when the police showed up. Almost funny in a way. I guess it just proves most criminals are not smart!

Hello God

Hello God,
I called tonight
To talk a little while
I need a friend who'll listen
To my anxiety and trial.
You see, I can't quite make it
Through a day just on my own...
I need your love to guide me,
So I'll never feel alone.
I want to ask you please to keep
My family safe and sound.
Come and fill their lives with confidence
For whatever fate they're bound.
Give me faith, dear God, to face
Each hour throughout the day,
And not to worry over things
I can't change in any way.
I thank you God for being home
And listening to my call,
For giving me such good advice
When I stumble and I fall.
Your number, God, is the only one
That answers every time.
I never get a busy signal,
Never had to pay a dime.
So thank you, God, for listening
To my troubles and my sorrow.
Good night, God,
I love You too,
And I'll call again tomorrow!

Not much....

Dinner last night with Mitch and Michelle was great. William had a great time playing with baby Karmen and I got a good dose of baby too:) The boys stayed the night in the tent again (although Joe and I stayed in the house this time). They had a good time and were full of energy this morning.

Other than that...not much new in my life...so I guess I will just work...ho hum...

Time to retire

Not me...but my favorite shoes. I have decided that my favorite black loafers need to be replaced. I went on a walk today at lunch and stopped at the shoe store and found an adorable pair of black loafers so I am going to part with my comfy, black loafers. Life was good with them, but I have to move on:)

My walk at lunch was very nice (not even counting the shoe shopping trip). It was a bit rainy...more of a mist...but I walked all around down town and had a good time. I also went over to Pioneer Square and they are have an exhibit of flowers called "Festival of Flowers" right now so I walked through there too. The colors were spectacular. They had the cutest pots of sunflowers. I so want to get one, although I would probably just end up killing the poor plant.
The picture isn't as good at the real thing, but it kind of shows what the layout is.

Weekend Update

My friends from Montana are in town this week. Mitch, Michelle, and little Karmen:) We saw them at church yesterday and tonight we are going to have dinner together at Mongolian Grill (yummy!!) I sure do miss my Michelle. It will be good to have some time together to chat tonight.

Saturday and Sunday night the boys and I went on a bike ride around the neighborhood. We had a good time. Will is almost too small for his bike, so I think I am going to be Zan a new bike and get some new training wheels for Zan's bike and give it to William. Poor little hand-me-down boy... Will's sleeping bag started to fall apart, so yesterday I got a new sleeping bag, but it was so much bigger than the sleeping bags we had before that I gave the new one to Zan and Will got Zan's old one. Although Will was very excited to have Zan's old one...so it worked out well. Since we had new sleeping bags we slept in the tent last night in our backyard. Joe brought over his tent and we camped out in the rain. It was really fun. The weather was actually pretty warm, even though it was raining. The tent has a nice tarp so we stayed warm and dry. Joe and I read Harry Potter (the first book) to the boys when we went to bed and they both fell asleep to it. It was so cute:) Zan fought it for a while. His eyes would get droopy and then he would open them again...cute stuff.

You know the part of the tent that has a mesh top on the ceiling to help it breathe and then the tarp goes over it about a foot above? Well, Raina, our cat, decided that she was going to sleep there last night. It cracked me up!!

Last, but definitely not least, I went to Genny's graduation party yesterday. It was great to see her so happy. She gave her graduation stole to Christina...it was so sweet. Those too are way cute. Christina looked AWESOME yesterday with her new haircut and her cute purple skirt. She almost stole the show away:)

Silly Saturday

I got to work today about 15 minutes early to find most of our team in the elevator lobby. Apparently no one had the elevator key so we were stuck on the first floor until Laurel got here. To make matters worse, the medical department was hosted an AAMA exam today which was supposed to start at 9am...they didn't get the test until 10:15. Crazy stuff. But now I am at my little desk and ready to work...the only problem is that no one has showed up for their appointments yet...so here I am blogging. Good use of my time, right?

Things are changing again...

Well, I am working tomorrow now. Nothing like short notice. But it will be okay anyway. Roxanne already agreed to watch the boys and my next paycheck will be a bit bigger next payday. I hope I get my movies today in the mail from Netflix. Maybe we can all watch a movie tonight. Zan ordered the movie Jack with Robin Williams, so it should be fun. I have seen it before and it is a cute movie.

No big surprise

So, Dusty called to cancel for this weekend. No mind to the fact that he is supposed to let me know by Wednesday if he isn't picking the boys up. No mind to the fact that he did the same thing last month and for Father's Day. And to top it off, he didn't even call me at work or on my cell...no...he called my house at 10 am (when he was sure I would be gone) and left a message. I guess he didn't want to tell me to my face. Maybe this shows that he at least feels a little guilty about letting his boys down. Will will be fine about it, but Zan is going to be heartbroken. Zan even wore his "work boots" today so he would be ready when his dad came. If only he knew/cared what this does to Zan....

Finally here!

Woo hoo! Friday is finally here! Actually the week went pretty fast, but I am still glad that the weekend is almost here. I thought I was going to work tomorrow, but it looks like I am not going to. Joe has to work and then he is going to his friend's new house so maybe I will get some stuff done around the house. Dusty is supposed to pick up the boys so it will be just me for most of Saturday. Maybe I will watch a movie or take a bike ride. Who knows...the options are limitless...

I need to vent

Okay...so everyone who knows me knows that there is no lost love between Dusty and I. Over the last year (since the divorce) he has actually surprised me and has lived up to his responsibility for the boys. Until recently he had picked up the boys religiously on his weekends and seemed to be spending at least some time with them, even if he had to work.

Well, it all has changed. A month ago he squirmed out of a weekend visit and now he is saying he probably won't have the boys for the three weeks this summer. The worst part is that Zan is totally excited and expecting to spend a lot of time with Dusty this summer and I have a feeling it won't be happening...sigh...

I wish he would just figure out what he is missing. The boys are great and they adore him and he treats them like trash. He only wants to be a dad if it "works" for him. Doesn't he realize parenthood is about sacrificing for the sake of your kids? If I only got to see my kids 4 days a month I would make SURE that I was available for them, regardless of work, money, friends, or life in general. It just makes me so mad that he doesn't at least put the boys near the top of his priority list. Sometimes I feel like they are the last item on his list. I guess I should have expected it. He only sees Alexis a few times a year and that is usually her doing. She will call him and basically invite herself up...if she doesn't do that then he doesn't even call her, let alone see her. It is just crap!

Well, thanks for letting me vent:)

Can't believe it...

Zan is officially a 3rd grader now! I can't believe it. Seems like he just started first grade and now he is moving on to third. He blew me away the other day when he read a few pages of Harry Potter to me. He is growing up so fast! William is almost 5...that I REALLY can't believe. If his birthday wasn't in September he would be started Kindergarten this year. Wow...how time flies. I remember being pregnant with him like it was yesterday...now he doesn't even want me to come inside to drop him off at the babysitter. He says he can do it "all by himself". It is cute that he is being so independent...but he is my baby! He isn't supposed to grow up yet...

Sigh...

Field Trip

Most of you know that I went on a field trip with Zan today. We had a blast! We went on the Willamette Jet Boats and had a great time. The boat ride was about 2 hours and we all got soaked. Okay, I know what you are thinking...we got rained on...well, you are wrong! The sun actually came out the whole time. We got wet when we did some "spin-a-roos" which consist of going about 40 MPH and then spinning 360 degrees. As we spun we would run into the huge wave we made and it would spray over the boat. It was great! Zan and Brent (his best friend) had HUGE smiles on their faces the whole time. You should have seen them when the guy first hit the throttle! I have never seen him so excited and full of life. It was great being there.

Besides the adrenaline, we also saw lots of neat sites around Portland. We looked at all the bridges and headed all the way down to the waterfalls just outside of Oregon City called the Willamette falls. I posted some pics of our journey:)

Weekend Update

To sum it all up...my weekend was great!

Friday night the boys and I spent the evening at Joe's house. We had some delicious pepper steaks. I buy them at a place on 122nd and Division called the Original Steer Market. It is my favorite butcher. It smells so good in there. The smell reminds me of when I was a kid and my mom would take me to her butcher and he would always give me a free hot dog while my mom ordered her meat. The boys watched a video of 30 years of National Geographic. They really liked seeing all the animals in the different shows. Then they watched Ice Age (well, Zan watched it...William fell asleep too fast to see much of it).

Saturday morning we took off to Ocean Shores to visit my parents. In Aberdeen we stopped at a little farmer's market. We bought some delicious strawberries (that were picked that very morning) and we bought the most delicious bread EVER. It was french bread, but was flavored with sun-dried tomatoes and pesto. Yummy! I still have half a loaf which I plan to eat tonight when I get home.

We arrived in Ocean Shores in good time, although I was glad to get there...boy what a long drive. Especially with two boys with WAY too much energy. We ate lunch with my parents and then we headed to the beach. I have never been to the beach on such a beautiful day. The weather was hot, about 80 I would say, and there was a nice coastal breeze which kept the heat comfortable. I even dipped my feet in the ocean and it wasn't too cold (amazing!) The boys had a great time playing in the sand and the waves. I even got a little bit of a sunburn on my legs (because I forgot to put sunscreen on my legs...silly me) My parents brought their folding chairs down to the beach and they both fell asleep. I got a picture of the two of them (my mom with her head back, mouth open...) It will be a great picture!

Saturday night my parents gave Joe and I a coupon for the casino in town which gave us an extra $5 in gambling money. I bought $20 for the slots and cashed in $50 so that was cool. I got a cute little hat with part of my winnings and I gave the rest to a different slot machine...oh well...it was fun:) After the casino Joe and I went down to the beach and sat on the beach and watched part of the sunset. It was so beautiful plus we had a good conversation. After the walk on the beach we took a quick drive around the town and ended up at a park and spent a few minutes on the swings. It was a lot of fun to just goof off and having fun. After the park we stopped at the store to get a snack and we got the coolest stick of pepperoni. It was called a bullwhip and it was about 3 feet long!!! We had to hold it up in the air to make sure it didn't drag on the floor. It was fun. We ate about half of it that night and then we shared the other half with the boys on our drive home on Sunday.

Sunday we headed home and stopped at a great church in Aberdeen. The boys had a great time in their classes (Zan even got a tatoo) and the service was great. It was all about Fatherhood (in honor of Father's Day of course) and it was great. Then on the way home from church we took a detour to a lake and we all decided that we would come back later this summer and go fishing at the lake. The boys seemed very excited with the prospect.

Well, that about sums it up. Hopefully my week ends up as good as my weekend was!

Ready for the Weekend!!!

Woo hoo! Friday is here and work is almost over! What a great time of the week.

Tonight I am headed up to Joe's with the boys so we can get a head start tomorrow. We are headed up to Ocean Shores, WA for the day to visit my parents (who are vacationing there for the week). I still need to get to the store and get a card for my Dad for Daddy's Day. Plus I think I am going to have the boys pick out something for him too.

It will be a long drive up there, but I know it will make them happy to have us there. They have a pool and a hot tub so I know we will be spending time doing that. I NEED a hot tub. I have been stressed since Sharon left, plus all the junk with Dusty not taking the boys this summer. Dumb! It will be good to unwind and relax in the hot tub for a while.

Monday I am working an earlier shift than normal because Wednesday I am going on the field trip with Zan and I am working the late shift on Wednesday instead to make that possible. The downside?? Not sleeping in next week:( Oh well, it is worth it. Zan is VERY excited that I am going on the trip with him. Plus it will be his last day of school, so that is special too.

Time Flies

Well, earlier this week (Tuesday to be exact) I felt like this week was NEVER going to end. It was dragging by like a snail. Today is Thursday and I can't believe the week is almost over. Boy, what a little prespective can do to make things better.

I am almost caught up on my bible reading now. I am actually on the right day now:) I just have to read today's devotion and I will be right on track...woo hoo! Church was great last night. Dr. Quick (our guest speaker) did part two of his stress talk. It was very informative...and believe it or not...quite funny. He had the whole church roaring at one point. It was great. The boys had a great time too. They learned about the story of the widow who gave two coins (all she had) and the rich people who were giving more (monetarily) but it was only a small portion of their riches. Zan was so cute, he said, "if I was the widow I would give everything because she gave more to God because it was everything she had". Then last night, as we were saying our prayers, Zan asked God to help him lose his tooth so he could get money and then he could give it to the poor. How cute is that!

As for dinner last night...as I expected we didn't have Chinese. Zan chose Jack in the Box again because he needed "another" squirt gun. Silly kids...

Sweet Tanya gave me a frappacino today when I came in. TJ got it for her, but she isn't a big fan of cold coffee. Yummy for me though.

Wednesday, June 15, 2005

Wednesday nights:)

Every Wednesday the boys and I go to church, and since we don't have a lot of time between work and when church starts we have started a new tradition. The boys take turns picking where we will eat out. Recently we have been exclusively dining at Jack in the Box. Not because the food is good (although it is pretty tasty...I love their chicken strips) but because they are giving away squirt guns in their kids' meals. As always, my kids decisions are, at least partially, driven by stuff. We all know that the 10 waterguns we have at home are not enough! We need more!!! Silly kids.

Well, last night Zan surprised me by saying he was going to pick Chinese food tonight. Now, my guess is he will probably change his mind by tonight...but at least I can dream for a few hours. It would be great to be able to eat some tasty Chinese food. Although Joe will probably be jealous since he LOVES Chinese food and he will still be working at that point.

Behind again...

I have been pretty good lately about reading my bible. I am following this plan which (if I follow it) will have me reading the bible in one year. About 4 or 5 years ago I read the bible from cover to cover and I got a lot out of it and I really want to accomplish this again.

The problem?

This week I have no motivation. I have two days behind on my reading, which isn't horrible, but still. I started reading again on the MAX, although I didn't get a lot read. Maybe at lunch I will get a little more read, although the couch is already calling my name and I think I am probably going to end up taking a nap instead.

In desparate need of some comfort food

Boy, what a day! I had a conference call today...not such a big deal...except it last almost 2 hours! So I had to go to lunch late and my poor little tummy was hungry:( Then when I got back from my late lunch, I return to an auditor for VA doing a program review. Talk about getting thrown into a bunch of stress right after lunch. She was talking to me and grilling me about a procedure we had...which our other VA rep suggested and now she is saying that it isn't right....grrrr...adrenaline isn't always fun. I could use a nice cup of hot cocoa and a bunch of marshmellows melted on top to ease the stress of this day. The bad news is it is still only three and I have two hours of work left.

I am so happy that I don't have class tonight. I can't wait to get my boys and hang out with them all evening. Maybe we will even have time to watch a movie together. I think I am going to make a batch of brownies for dessert too. They sound tasty, although my hot chocolate might cure my chocolate craving...so who knows??

A most wonderful weekend

So, this weekend I went to Moses Lake in Washington to help Joe's dad move. We stopped at a great restaurant called Cousins for breakfast. Yummy! Then we headed the rest of the way to his dad's house. We helped load up the rest of the jeep and put a few things in my car and headed to the new place which was "out of town". Now, being the city girl that I am, I have a different idea of what "out of town" means. I didn't think it meant 7 miles on a gravel road...lol. But it was fun all the same. The house had a great view and it was SO peaceful out there. After we cleaned the house for a while we took a walk and watched the sun set. It was so beautiful. I truly had one of the best times of my life. It is funny, although it seems like we didn't do anything, I just had a great time. I feel so much closer to him and appreciate him even more than I did before. I am truly lucky to have such a great man in my life.

A love/hate relationship

I have a love/hate relationship with Rose Festival. I look forward to it every year, but I also dread it at the same time.

Things I love:
Watching the ships come in. They are so huge, but so graceful. I also love how all the sailors stand along the perimeter of the ship while it docks.

The rides in the Fun Center. Okay, it isn't called the Fun Center anymore...something like the Waterfront Village...but I grew up with the name Fun Center and I am a creature of habit. Sorry Anny and Christina...it is just what I call it!

Parades, especially the Grand Floral Parade. I used to be in the parade for years in high school so it has a special place in my heart. Plus I took Zan for years when he was a baby. My dad used to work for KOIN TV, which televises it every year, so I used to always get to sit in the VIP section, which was GREAT! I could show up a hour before it started and see the whole thing with great seats. Plus we were right at the beginning (and also where the TV cameras were) so we always got to hear the bands and see all the cool stuff the floats did. Everyone was still fresh and excited...not tired and sweaty...

Things I hate:
Traffic! Between the bridges going up and the influx of people coming downtown...traffic is horrible!

Crazy women dressing like....ummmm..."desperate" women and throwing themselves at the sailors. Don't they realize that EVERY sailor tells EVERY woman that she is the most beautiful woman in all the stops they have ever taken. I mean come on! Why are women so dumb sometimes.

The MAX. Normally I can squeak into a seat on the MAX on my way home...but not during Rose Festival! Everyone, including their mother, uncle, cousins, and kids are on the MAX ALL THE TIME, which leaves no space for the little working people like me. I miss the quiet rides with other "workers" where everyone just sits in their chair and reads a book or listens to headphones. The Rose Festival patrons are high on life and LOUD. No naps for me on the train. Plus when the ships come in it totally screws up the MAX because they go over one of the bridges that gets raised. Last year our driver was playing a game he called, "Beat the ships". Unfortunately, we lost and were stuck downtown for 30 minutes.

Last of all, I hate how much money everything costs. Especially the Fun Center (aka Waterfrong Village). When I was younger the only thing you had to buy was some food, which was AS ridiculously priced and some rides. They used to have a braclet for $15 which let you ride all night. Now it costs $5 just to walk around on the grass! What a rip-off!

I love Bath and Body Works!

I especially love their annual sale! Today I went and bought a few things while on my lunch. I got some "peony" shower gel, some "coco cabana" (smells like a pina colada) lotion, "rice flower" lotion and some yummy smelling "warm vanilla sugar" body scrub for the shower. What a happy, great smelling day! I can't wait to go home and take a shower with my new body scrub.

Yummy!

Amber, knowing that I LOVE good food, brought some a steak roll that she and Jeremy made over the weekend. Good does not begin to describe this tasty treat! It was steak rolled up around spinach, mushrooms, feta cheese, and a little blue cheese. Then on top of the roll was a bunch of cracked pepper. Boy...it was heaven. I have such great friends...they even feed me.

The little things in life

Isn't it amazing how the little things in life can mean so much more than the big things? Those little moments when you feel like you are the center of someone's world? Last night I came home to my very own supply of Thomas Kemper sodas. My Joe had read my blog and took the time to notice that I wanted to try the cream soda by Thomas Kemper (which by the way, is vanilla creme). It definitely lived up to my expectations, although the thought behind my soda collection means a whole lot more to me than the sodas.

I think I am going to make a root beer float tonight with one of my sodas...sounds tasty...

Tonight is my last night of class! I am taking all my pottery in to be graded tonight. It is kind of sad that I won't be making anything new. Maybe next year I will take another class. It was really fun. I know all my friends are going to have a good time this week when I bring in everything so they can pick their favorite thing to take home. Christmas in June!

Good friends are good to have

Well, good ole' Sandy went to Winco and bought me some Bit-o-honey. Yummy!

Today is the start of the annual Bath and Body Works sale! If you need soap or lotion...it is THE place to be. Lots of stuff for half off. And it all smells great! Amber and Sandy have already been today. I think I am going to go later this week on my lunch break and get a few things. I need some more shower gel and I can always use more yummy smelling lotion! Sandy got some coconut lotion which smelled great and Amber got some more "warm vanilla sugar"...yummy!

Change of scenery

Well, the pink background was bugging me...so today it is green:)

I finally gave in and bought a coffee from Java Man. I will probably be full of energy tonight. Watch out world!

I get to pick up my Lexy tonight! Yeah! I miss her. I haven't seen her in a month!

How can it be???

Today I woke up before my alarm, totally fresh and ready to tackle the day. Why is it that at noon I feel like I could sleep for the rest of the day? It doesn't make sense I could be so tired after how great I felt this morning. Just isn't fair! I think after I eat my lunch and I am going to spend some quality time with the couch in the lunch room. I love that couch. It is SO comfortable...much better than the one I have at my house! Although pretty soon I am getting Genny's couch so I will at least have a change of scenery.

Bit-O-Honey

Okay...so everyone knows about the candy Bit-o-honey, right? My friend Sandy brough some into the office a few weeks ago and rekindled my love for these things. So yesterday, after lunch with Tanya, I decided I would go to the store and grab a bar of them. I went into Young's Mart and search for a good 3 minutes only to find that, no, they don't carry this tasty treat. They have everything else including wasabi flavored potatoes chips and "shrimp chip" which look like french fries and are shrimp flavored (by the way...yuck!) but they don't carry bit-o-honey!!! What is up with that!

So, today, as I have continued craving some bit-o-honey, I went to a different store...and they don't have it EITHER! It is a conspiracy. This must be stopped. It just isn't fair. I need a bit-o-honey....sigh............

Personality test

So, I took this personality test online today...and here is what it said:

Your high level of Agreeableness indicates a strong interest in others' needs and well-being. You are pleasant, sympathetic, and cooperative.

Conscientiousness

Your score on Conscientiousness is high. This means you set clear goals and pursue them with determination. People regard you as reliable and hard-working.

Emotional Stability
Your average score on emotional stability was 4.6, which is considered high. It is in approximately the 92nd percentile for females over the age of 21.

So...what I determine from this is that there is no one like me...I am on the low end of two and the high end of three. That just makes me special!

June!

Can you believe it is June already???? Boy, time sure does fly! It seems like it was just Lexy's B-day (April 10) and now school is almost out for the kids. Zan is going on a field trip on his last day of school. And I, for the first time ever, am actually going along. He (and I) are very excited. We are going on a jet boat ride. I can't wait. Plus I get to spend some special time with my Zander.

A new bakery is moving in by my work. Genny and I walked past it today on our way to work. They open August 1st and the sign says they will have lots of tasty baked goods and sweet breads, plus light breakfasts. Yummy! I can't wait until August! Right now the closest "true" bakery is 3 or 4 blocks away...and NOT on my way from the train, but this place I walk past everyday...ohhhh the excitement. Okay...I am a bit crazy today...well everyday...but hey that is what makes me Teresa, right???
